What is xylazine?
Xylazine is a pharmaceutical drug used for sedation, anesthesia, muscle relaxation, and analgesia in animals such as horses, cattle, and other non-human mammals.Veterinarians also use xylazine as an emetic, especially in cats. It is an analog of clonidine and an agonist at the α2 class of adrenergic receptor.
In veterinary anesthesia, xylazine is often used in combination with ketamine. It is sold under many brand names worldwide, most notably the Bayer brand name Rompun. It is also marketed as Anased, Sedazine, and Chanazine. The drug interactions vary with different animals.
It has become a drug of abuse, particularly in Puerto Rico, where it is diverted from stocks used by equine veterinarians and used as a cutting agent for heroin.
xylazine in cattle sedative and tranquilizer
Xylazine has for a long time been the most effective sedative available for cattle. The dose rate of xylazine in cattle, 0.02-0.20 mg/kg, with the highest dose intended for i.m. use, is one-tenth of that used in horses. Intravenous injection results in deeper sedation than i.m. administration.

xylazine in horses
Xylazine is a common equine sedative. It can be given iv, im or (less commonly) sq and acts on alpha 2 receptors. It also provides analgesia and is synergistic with opioids for both sedation and analgesia. Doses range from 100-200 mg iv (1-2cc of 100mg/ml) for most horses.
horse tranquilizer xylazine
What is the Horse Tranquilizer Drug Xylazine? Xylazine is a horse tranquilizer drug and large animal sedative with pain killing and muscle relaxant properties that is not approved by the Food and Drug and Administration (FDA) for use in humans.
